Frequently Asked Questions

How can I pay for my appointment?

If you’ve not already paid for your appointment then payments can be made by:

  • Bank transfer before your appointment

  • Card at your appointment

  • Or an invoice with a payment link will be sent after your appointment

What will my first visit include?

At your first visit, we’ll start with a thorough consultation (unless we’ve already done this beforehand). We’ll also check your range of movement and carry out any relevant orthopaedic tests to help guide your treatment.

You’ll then receive a full hour of hands-on treatment, followed by tailored exercises to continue at home.

At subsequent visits, we’ll begin with a brief check-in on how you’ve been since your last massage, then continue with your treatment and any updated exercises as needed.

What will the massage feel like?

Your massage will combine a variety of techniques, drawing on both Eastern and Western approaches.

We often begin with gentle Amma techniques to stimulate acupressure points along your body’s main meridians. Myofascial techniques may then be used (without oil) to release and lengthen connective tissue. Broad, flowing strokes will warm your muscles, calm your nervous system, and help you relax.

Where needed, we may also use trigger point work to relieve areas of tension or pain, and finish with stretches to support greater joint mobility.

Throughout your session, you are encouraged to ask questions or let us know if anything feels uncomfortable — we can always adapt. Massage works best when your body feels safe and able to relax.

Are you insured?

Yes we are insured to practice through Balens Insurance.

Do you provide receipts for insurance?

Yes — we provide receipts that you can submit to your insurance provider. We can also tailor the receipt to meet your insurer’s requirements, whether that’s including a stamp from our governing body or specifying the type of treatment you received, so it’s accepted without issue.

What to expect following treatment?

Most clients feel deeply relaxed after their massage. It’s also normal to experience some natural reactions as your body responds to the treatment. These may include mild tenderness, soreness, warmth, or redness around the treated areas.

These effects are part of the body’s natural healing process and usually settle within 24–72 hours.

Will I be covered during my massage?

Yes. You will be appropriately draped throughout your treatment to ensure you feel warm, comfortable, and secure. Only the area being worked on will be uncovered, and your privacy will always be respected.

What should I wear?

For your massage, you’ll be asked to undress down to your underwear and lie on the massage couch under a towel. Your therapist will step out of the room while you get ready and will only return once you say you’re comfortable.

For the postural assessment, you’ll also need to be in your underwear so we can clearly see your body’s alignment. If you prefer, you’re welcome to bring shorts, and women may choose to wear a sports bra or crop top. The most important thing is that you feel comfortable.

What is my role during a massage therapy treatment?

Your role is simply to make yourself comfortable. If we need to adjust your position, we’ll either guide you or ask you to move — otherwise, feel free to shift around so you’re at ease.

Some clients prefer to close their eyes and fully relax, while others enjoy chatting or asking questions about the therapy. There’s no right or wrong — whatever feels best for you is perfect.

What happens if I’m late?

If you arrive late, your appointment may be shortened so we can finish on time, or you may be asked to reschedule.
